Redwood Park Academy

Southsea

Class Teacher: Susan Harrigan

Welcome to Southsea Class one of our Key Stage 4 classes here at Redwood Park Academy.

Spring 2025

Southsea class have had an amazing spring term so far and have managed to pack in so much fun and of course loads of learning!

We have been picking up the bread from Greggs that has been donated to school for our breakfast club and practicing our road safety skills on route! Southsea class pupils have been practicing writing out our personal details by writing post cards home and then buying stamps and posting them - we hope you liked our cards! We have also been practicing using money, checking costs and checking change.

Southsea Class have also been looking at personal skills, interacting with others and resolving conflict in healthy and acceptable ways. We have been discussing how to deal with situations and who we can speak to if we are not happy. Southsea class has been visiting the local colleges and having a look around and getting to know who these people will be in their next steps and of course having a good look round at all the amazing things the colleges have to offer. We have been to CoPC Highbury campus, St Vincents and HSDC.

We still have so much more planned for spring and lots to come for summer term.

Autumn 2024

Southsea Class have been enjoying and experiencing responsibility and being treated as young adults. They have volunteered to support Portsmouth Down Syndrome Association by helping to de-weed and clean up their car park and have also just begun their work experience at the New Place Hotel. It's gotten off to a fantastic start with lots of positive praise and comments making Southsea's class team really proud! Pupils have really been showing their true Redwood values being kind and ambitious at every opportunity and confident communicators.  We have particularly enjoyed STEM as part of the curriculum and have learnt lots about food and health. Southsea have taken lots of opportunities to explore STEM across the curriculum, using IT and Apps and integrating it with equipment such as Lego.

Here's to continuing all the hard work, ambition and determination for year 11! Well done Southsea Class.
