Redwood Park Academy

The Sakura Project

The Sakura Project is an initiative of the Japanese government and business organisations. They have been donating flowering cherries (Sakura) to organisations around the UK as a token of friendship.

This links nicely with the RHS programme of planting blossom trees as Covid memorials and with Redwood Parks inclusion in “Schools That Heal” alongside Omose Primary school in Japan.

Most organisations have been gifted one tree but Redwood Park is lucky enough to have been given three, one of each variety the project has to supply. These will be planted this winter in our orchard area and outside our reception area.

In thanks for this we have sent a British native tree (a Rowan) to Omose Primary school. Along with a video message of friendship.

We are expecting to see the students at Omose Primary planting their tree in a return video soon.

We also look forward to continuing to develop this partnership with Japan in the coming years, sharing videos and photos as our trees develop, flower and fruit.

The plaque ready for display in Japan (translation to follow, but basically says Ed Bond is a fantastic chap!
