Redwood Park Academy

D-Day

 Class Teacher: Lara Penfold

Welcome to D-Day Class one of our Key Stage 4 classes here at Redwood Park Academy.

Summer 2025

The first half of the summer half term has brought lots of opportunities for learning both in and out of the classroom.

D-Day have been exploring the 'Flat' during Life Skills, where they have been learning how to make beans on toast and tea, how to wash up and make a bed. Work around financial literacy has incorporated bank accounts, credit, savings and budgeting to furnish a new home.

This half term, pupils experienced trips to the hotel for work experience, which they have thoroughly enjoyed and learnt some key skills in the workplace.

Food always goes down well in D-Day classroom, so we have been turning the rhubarb grown from the garden into crumble and using cake to cement our skills in percentages during maths.

We end this half term by writing letters to Ed, telling him all the things we have been up to since he left at Easter time.

Summer 2024

D-Day class have had a fantastic year, maturing and growing into amazing young people, who are feeling more confident in themselves and their learning.

The class have really enjoyed challenging themselves doing practise papers, research tasks, debating moral dilemmas, and creating a chocolate bar brand.

Their highlights of the year include Hampton Court Palace, Bowling in Fareham, Fort Nelson, the Lake for kayaking, and some of them were lucky enough to go to the D-Day Celebrations in Southsea.

This is what some of the pupils had to say...

Riley has really enjoyed playing lots of games during lunchtime clubs and outdoor Ed lessons.

Oakley has enjoyed coming into school, seeing his mates and learning more about ICT.

The class are looking forward to Year 10 and starting their options lessons.
